Fender Telecaster bass

1972 Fender guitar and bass catalogue - page 20

Catalogue scan. Description and image of the Fender Telecaster bass. The Tele bass shown in this catalogue has been redesigned somewhat since the last catalogue; specifically it has a new humbucking pickup, in line with the humbuckers now fitted to the Telecaster guitars, but positioned forwards right by the end of the neck. The scratchplate, control plate and hand rest have all also changed somewhat. Compare this version with the previous in the 1970 catalogue.

US list price for the Telecaster bass (in blond) was $302.50 between 1970 and 1973; the 1972 redesign had no impact on pricing. Left handed, and guitars in Fender's custom finishes were priced more, with a custom finish (Lake Placid Blue, Sonic Blue, Olympic White, Black, Candy Apple Red and Natural) an extra $17, and a lefty an extra $30.
