Gibson EB1 and EB2 bass guitars

1958 Gibson Electric Guitar and Amplifier Catalogue Page 14

Gibson 1958 electric guitars and amplifiers catalogue, page 14. Details of two Gibson bass guitars; the newly renamed EB1 (which had been available since 1953 as the EB or electric bass) and the newly launched EB2 making its first catalogue appearance. The EB2 was a sister model to the ES-335TD which was also making its catalogue debut in 1958 (see the back cover). This was to be the last fifties catalogue appearance of the EB1 bass as production ceased in 1958. The EB2 continued until 1961, when it also was deleted. However Gibson reintroduced both models, albeit with a few minor changes; the EB2 sold well in the mid to late 1960s before a final deletion in 1971/72, whilst the EB1 had a brief reprise, almost entirely limited to 1970.

1958 prices for these basses were as follows: EB-1 $235; EB-2 $267.50 ($282.50 natural finish) - USA zone 1 prices.
