Gibson 1960 guitar and bass catalogue. Page 37. Details of two very fine Gibson carved top jazz guitars, the Super 400C and L-5C - the acoustic versions of the Super 400 CES and L-5CES shown on page 14. These are very fine, and consequently somewhat pricey guitars, though without the extra associated electronics, slightly cheaper than the equivalent electric models.

Carved top of the finest close-grained spruce, carved back of highly figured curly maple with matching rims and white-black-white ivoroid binding. Slim, fast, low-action three-piece curly maple neck with adjustable truss rod. Ebony fingerboard.

The 1960 prices for the models were as follows: L-5C (sunburst finish) $565; L-5CN (Natural) $580; Super 400 C (sunburst) $650; Super 400 CN natural) $675.
