This page details a number of suggested effects settings for the Les Paul Recording guitar. Four Rock settings and two Country settings. Some of these sounds can be heard on the Les Paul Recording flexi disc that came with 1971 Low Impedance brochure. Have a listen.

The Gibson #640 strings listed are Stainless Steel, medium gauge with a wound 3rd: .012 - .057.

This is really helpful. I have had my LPR for decades (bought second hand, without the manual) and never really understood how to make the most of these controls. This makes sense. Thanks for posting it.
