1968 "That Great Gretsch Sound" guitar and amplifier catalog page 33

Despite the highly colorful (verging on psychedelic) nature of this brochure, the two acoustic instruments on this page are reproduced in greyscale, and would seem to be the same images used in the previous catalog. The Eldorado 6040 was a very fined carved top and back acoustic with large 18" body, and a price tag of $600, only available by custom order. In the previous catalog (1965) both 17" and 18" body guitars are offered, in either Golden Sunburst or Natural finish. Only the Sunburst 18" variant is offered in 1968. The the smaller (16") New Yorker 6050 was considerably less expensive than the Eldorado: merely $165 in April 1968.

The Eldorado is described as follows:

Pure musical gold and unmatched playing ease for the discriminating professional. Hand-made throughout with sounds chambers worthy of a master-made violin. The guitar backs are carved from solid slabs of hand-picked "fiddle-back" maple. Finley arched top of close grained spruce is carved and graduated for tone.
