Vox Dominator, Duotone, Super Ace and Clubman

Vox 'Choice of the Stars' brochure

This page from the 1962 Vox 'Choice of the Stars' brochure shows a selection of early JMI Vox guitars all of which were produced in the UK, primarily for the British market. All the guitars shown are early designs, fitted with the metal-covered Vox V1 single coil pickups, so characteristic of early UK-built Vox's.

The precise configurations are unique to these very early JMI Vox guitars, and (except for the Dominator) unique to this catalogue. All of the models shown here would be redesigned/renamed over the next year or so, typically getting the same body style as the Dominator, though confusingly this model itself was soon to be renamed the Vox Shadow. The Clubman II and Duotone would both have this body style as the decade progressed, whilst the Clubman I was deleted; the Clubman was only listed as a dual pickup model in 1963 Vox literature. The Duotone would turn into a dual pickup version of the Dominator by 1964 (see the 1964 Vox 'Precision in Sound' catalogue).

The Super Ace, however was one model not to receive the Shadow/Dominator body style in 1963; it was one of the more expensive models, and as such did receive a new body, neck and, and was upgraded in a similar fashion to the Vox Ace with white plastic V2 pickups.

Vintage 1960's Vox Cougar Bass Hollowbody Bass Guitar w / Original Case

NEW YORK, NEW YORK, 10002, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA

$1595

Vintage Circa 1966 Vox Cougar Bass. A killer vintage Hollowbody Bass for the price. Has a slim neck that is still nice and straight. It has a chunky but narrow profile and plays great in every position. Original pickups sound amazing. They are super warm and thumpy, with a nice woody punch when you dig in. Excellent playing condition with some signs of normal, honest cosmetic wear such as finish checking. Overall it is a very clean example considering it's age. Bass is exactly as pictured. SCHERTZ, TEXAS, 78154, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA

Listing is for a 1967 Vox Sidewinder 4 string semi-hollow bass guitar with Vox hardcase. Not sure if they hardcase is original or not and while it will protect the guitar, it isn't in the best shape. No other accessories are included. Pictures are a part of the description, if you don't see it, this listing doesn't include it (except for the case) This guitar has large finish crazing throughout entire body which seems pretty typical for this year model. A couple large dented areas on side of ... more

VNice Vintage 1966 Vox Panther Short Scale Electric Bass Guitar w Case

BIRMINGHAM, ALABAMA, 35209, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA

$875

This is the second sunburst Vox Panther electric bass guitar that I've owned and it's the best one I've seen on Ebay. Most of the ones I see fare missing the chrome cover for the bridge, but this one has it. It also comes with the original hard case, the original cord, and a Vox polishing cloth that was in the case when I bought it a few years back. I've had my fun with it so now it's time for someone else to enjoy it. It does have a couple of small nicks to the paint, but you can tell this bass... more

Vox Bobcat electric guitar

BRIDGETON, NEW JERSEY, 08302, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA

$490

This Vox Bobcat was made in Italy in 1966 by Eko (see voxshowroom com below). It is a relatively uncommon model compared to other double-cut thin-line hollow body guitars produced in Italy for Vox during the 1960s, and the only model with three pickups. This guitar is all original, including Grover open-back tuners, zero-fret, Eko pickguard, Vox extended range single coil pickups, and Bigsby-style Vox vibrato tailpiece. The only thing missing is the string damper that attached to the bridge (I ... more
