The cover of the 1979 Gretsch catalogue features a new solid body guitar, the Gretsch Committee model 7628. This guitar, along with the bass equivalent, model 7629, was an exciting departure from Gretsch, using uncharacteristic construction techniques (through neck) and with the contrasting maple/walnut laminations as a feature to be highlighted... very much of it's time, and great instruments... just not the guitars usually associated with the brand.
