Vintage Electric Guitar Advertisements

Four decades of classic electric guitar advertising

Old guitar adverts are just so cool.. not only do they show some great old guitars, they demonstrate how and where the manufacturers or distributors were pitching these instruments, and are very much a snapshot of guitar players and the guitar market at that time. Adverts shown here are sorted chronologically - but you can use some of the filters below to narrow down the vintage adverts you are interested in. Only electric guitar adverts are included on this page. See also the advertisements for acoustic guitars, basses, amps and effects pedals.

ULTRA RARE vintage 1970s Cleartone Plexi Strat Japan lawsuit acryl Stratocaster

KöLN, 50823, GERMANY

€35

YES IT'S THE "GET LUCKY" GUITAR! Nile Rodgers made these rare birds famous - he has been playing his since the 70s, and it appeared again in the Daft Punk video. These were made in Japan (Fuji Gen?) in the early 70s and came out under a few different brand names, like Cleartone, Coloursound, Sanox and Bellwood ( " Super Swinger " ), but all in all they are pretty rare and information is scarce. The guitar has been upgraded with some (quite rare, btw) hot pickups branded "Select by EMG " , I ... more

Vintage blade bass humbucker from a 1970s Anjo (Japan) P-bass

CRANBROOK, BRITISH COLUMBIA, V1C3K6, CANADA

$35

This was recently pulled from a fully-functional Japanese-made Anjo P-bass. It's a dual-magnet, dual-blade humbucker with twin ceramic bar magnets. I'm able to show the insides because it does not appear that the pickup cover was ever held in place with anything but tape. I recently upgraded this pickup to a newer, high-output bass humbucker, and I'm not likely to ever need this pickup again. Resistance measures 9 4kOhms, and the wiring is 2-lead. The tone is a bit scoopy as you'd expect from ... more

Not reissue, original late 60's-70s Gibson USA part. This came with a bunch of vintage Les Paul bits this one from an early 70s LP Deluxe I think, but may be right for other models too. For other small original Les Paul parts, please see my other listings. Please check my other listings for more vintage guitar parts -- also our partner site, Madjazzman. what a fabulous, fascinating collection! i've yet to see a better one on the net. these images and the descriptions are a hugely under-valued part of music history and it's good to see some of it saved and celebrated.... all the best, d
