Gibson 1960 guitar and amplifier catalog. Page 11. Details of two Gibson solid-bodies. These guitars are descendants of the Les Pauls, yet not quite evolved into the more familiar 'batwing' SG shape. The shape itself is usually referred to as a Les Paul doublecut. They were previously known as the Gibson Les Paul Special and Les Paul TV, but here are referred to as the SG Special, and SG TV. The TV, of course, is just a finish variant of the Les Paul Junior on page 12.
Both guitars shown on this page are sporting this limed-mahogany TV finish (also called cream finish), although they were also available in translucent Cherry.
A Les Paul doublecut bass also existed, using the same body style, these were the earliest EB0 basses. Sometime in 1961 the shape was discontinued in favour of the classic SG shape, so popular to this day.
1960 US zone 1 prices for these guitars were: SG Special $195; SG TV 132.50.
