1975 Gibson solid body catalog. Page 5. Right hand page of a double page spread on the L5-S. This was the first catalog appearance of the L-5S, despite being listed in Gibson literature from mid-1972. It had been around for a few years; it was initially one of the new low impedance models first shown at the 1972 summer NAMM show, but by 1975 it had standard Gibson high impedance super-humbuckers. As can be seen here, it was a very ornate guitar, highly appointed with a price-tag to match. At the time of the production of this catalog it was listed at $899 (US zone 1) - the most expensive solid guitar in Gibson's 1975 line, and second only to one thinline, the ES-355TD-SV and a few of the artist series electrics.
