1976 Gibson solid body catalog. Page 10. The 1976 catalog was an updated version of the 1975 catalog, with changes made to pages 10-12 only. Page 10 is a left hand page of a two-page spread on the new Gibson S-1. This was the first catalog appearance of the Gibson S-1.
It had a March 1976 US price of $399 (Natural Satin finish) / $449 (Lustrous Ebony) / $479 (Lustrous Sunburst).
Gibson was making electric guitars back in 1924. But, the world didn't really catch on to Gibson's idea until over two decades later. Some of our most successful electric guitar designs today were created in the 50's. It makes you wonder how far ahead of the times our new guitar designs are.
The guitar shown is in Natural Satin finish. Note also the clear plastic pickup covers - an early feature (also of the Marauder). By mid 1978, both Gibson S-1 and Marauder pickup covers would be black.
