The 'staple' pickup was fitted to numerous Matsumoku-built hollow bodies between about 1968 and 1972, replacing the trapezoid single coil fitted to solid and hollow bodies from about 1966. Some of the guitars to sport these pickups were branded: Angelica (1202T, 5002), Aria Diamond (5102T, 1802T, 718T), Commodore (N25), Conrad, Electra (2221), Eros (9520), Lyle (5102T), Orlando, Pan (P-23, P-D), Univox (1825, 1832, 1900, Coily), Ventura (V1001, V1002, V1300). No doubt there are numerous other examples. But it is perhaps best known today for its use on the early Japanese Epiphone hollow body, the 5102T / EA-250.
The pickup is a humbucker. You have to remove the six polepiece bolts in order to lift the plastic cover and see the coils. The covers are typically plain black, or silvered (nickel plated?) plastic. Plated examples are usually black but occasionally white. For further information on the sizes and threads of mounting bolts, and typical D.C. resistances of these pickups, see the supporting members area.
