Page 3 shows two very popular electric thinlines, the Gibson ES-335TD and Gibson ES-345TD. Although more thinlines appear on pages 4 and 5, this catalog does not show the entire Gibson range of the time. Have a look at the US-issued 1970 Gibson thinline catalog or the 1972 Selmer Gibson catalog for a more complete look at the models available.
The ES-335TD is described as follows:
Thin, double cutaway - a newsmaker from its first appearance, this model offers outstanding performance for ensembles, recording, radio and TV at an amazingly modest price. It offers all the advantages of Gibson's, thin–body design with its ease of handling, easy, fingering and fast action... its sparkling sustaining tone and instant response. Semi-solid, body construction. Beautiful curly maple arched top and back, pearl inlays, and nickel-plated metal parts.
August 1971 UK prices for these guitars were as follows:
code | model | finish | price |
---|---|---|---|
5425/02 | ES-335TD | Cherry | £325.50 |
5425/05 | ES-335TD | Sunburst | £325.50 |
5426/02 | ES-345TD | Cherry | £407.50 |
5426/05 | ES-345TD | Sunburst | £407.50 |
Note, the only listed finishes are Cherry and Sunburst; US price lists from this time also include Walnut as a finish option, at no extra cost.
