Vox Phantom Bass Mark III - from the Vox "precision in sound" catalogue, 1964

The Vox teardrop bass was initially known as the Phantom Mark III. It was built in Dartford, Kent, and was one of the early experimental UK-models that the later Italian Vox basses were modelled upon. In order to avoid confusion with the regular Phantom Bass, it was renamed Mark IV, or V224, but was still the same bass.

The following description comes from the 1964 Vox catalogue 'Precision in Sound' - which pictures a left handed version of the bass.

This rugged and powerful model incorporates all the special features of the Mark III range, but with the exclusive four pole low-frequency pickups for maximum bass response.
