The Gibson Sonex series was launched in mid 1980, after being shown at the June 1980 NAMM show in Chicago. This owners manual was produced around the same time. It contains information pertaining to three models: the Sonex-180 Deluxe, Sonex-180 Standard and Sonex-180 Custom. 16 pages, black and white printing, 5 1/2" x 3 1/2".
Congratulations on the purchase of your new Gibson Sonex-180. A revolutionary new product from the world leader of fretted instruments – Gibson.
This booklet contains information regarding many aspects of your guitar, including material, electronics, "how to," care, maintenance, and more.
Please take a few minutes to acquaint yourself with the following information, and then begin enjoying a lifetime of music with your new Gibson Sonex-180.
The first five, and last five pages of this booklet are fairly generic (largely similar pages appear in a number of owner manuals from this period), with six pages of Sonex-specific information starting on page 6, with pickups, associated controls and description of the coil tap on page 7, and a labelled diagram of the guitar on pages 10 and 11.
The final section contains information on strings: how to change them, how often, and what strings to use (naturally they suggest Gibson!). The strings fitted to the guitar are listed on the back page - in this case G-040H (0.012-0.058).
The Sonex Standard was deleted and replaced by the Sonex Artist in 1981.
